Hello Garlic

I was not a garlic lover myself, but everything changed when I started exploring a little more about the benefits from eating it. I am not talking about the garlic powder or the minced bottled garlic you can purchase in any supermarket. I am talking about the full garlic bulbs that you will have to chop, crush or mince yourself. Yes, that kind! Those are fresher and closer to the ground (the less processed the better). But how did my interest in fresh garlic started? Well, I love watching cooking shows and there is one special show called: My Kitchen Rules that they televise every week here in Christchurch. It’s more like a cooking competition, but you can learn many cooking tips from the contestants and the top chefs as well. And that is how I started getting hooked to use fresh garlic in my food! The contestants will chop those garlic bulbs like there is no tomorrow. They will also throw one, two, three cloves of garlic to their foods like there is also no tomorrow. Then, after watching this garlic craziness on the show for almost a month, I decided to do the same. And what a difference in my food! It’s been tastier than ever!

But wait! That is not all, it turns out that garlic doesn’t only make your food tasty, but it also has healing properties. The experts agree that most of the health effects are caused by one of the sulfur compounds formed when a garlic clove is chopped, crushed or chewed. This compound is known as Allicin, and is also accountable for the particular garlic smell. Allicin enters the body from the digestive tract and travels all over the body, where it applies its biological benefits. And just let me tell you a secret . Ready? That awful smell in your breath after eating garlic is good because it indicates the presence of its healing properties!

These are just some of the garlic’s healing properties:

Garlic can keep you away from the Common Cold

It reduces Blood Pressure

It improves Cholesterol Levels, which can reduce the risk of Heart Disease

It detoxifies Heavy Metals in your body

It can help improve your Iron Metabolism

It has Cancer-Protective Properties

And my favorite here: It can help you live longer!

Some useful tips for using the garlic correctly is to let it rest after being crushed, chopped or minced for at least 5-10 minutes to intensify his healing benefits. Also to help improve the breath smell, you can try after eating garlic on chewing parsley or lemon. Hopefully, I have convinced you to eat your garlic! Just give it a try!
